Introducing MeshCore

MeshCore is an independent alternative to cell phone communication. It is self-powered and works when electricity and cell phone services are unavailable. Companion radios communicate with each other and with repeaters that "hop" messages over a wide area. As of now, MeshCore coverage includes western Wyoming, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and much of Utah. Any message you send can be received within that area.

A typical MeshCore radio uses a smartphone as its input/output, paired by Bluetooth. Encrypted, private messages are sent and received using long range radio (LoRa), as shown in the image above. Routing of messages is automatic, and the MeshCore app is very familiar, like texting.

MeshCore is in addition to FRS/GMRS radio that we continue to use and practice as always. MeshCore is now the primary contingency communication method, followed by FRS/GMRS radio.

There is a weekly practice check-in period starting at 8am each Sunday morning and ending at 6pm the following Thursday.
